Fruit producer and marketer Sun World International has selected FoodLink to provide item-level traceability solution on seedless grapes and sweet peppers sold in the US.
In addition, Sun World International plans to implement the traceability solution to all other fruits and vegetables produced and sold in the US.
Under the deal, FoodLink will gather product details and store information such as growing location and lot number across a range of packaging types and items, including all clamshells and bags.
FoodLink stated that consumers can scan a QR code on any Sun World product to know the origin of the product.
Sun World International Innovation and Special Projects director Claudio Olave said, "We are happy to be working with FoodLink on this important project, which will give Sun World a distinct market advantage in terms of food safety and production technology,"
Sun World is one of the leading growers, packers, breeders and marketers of table grapes. The company ships more than 10 million cartons of produce annually, and manages more than 10,000 acres of farming land with a network of domestic and international licensed partner growers.
FoodLink's recent acquisition of TrueTrac has integrated that company's advanced case and item-level tracking solutions with FoodLink's broad network of buyers and sellers resulting in a web-based network directly linking information from a field where food is grown and harvested all the way through packing, shipping and purchasing by retail category managers, ultimately bringing full visibility to consumers.
FoodLink is the commerce and traceability platform that connects fresh food retailers and wholesalers to a network of over 2,000 growers, packers and shippers.
