strawberryIreland-based rigid plastic packaging supplier Holfeld Plastics has introduced a family of K37 punnets for fresh produce soft fruit and salad packaging.

The new plastic containers, K37-50, 60 and 70mm, join the company's existing K37-40 and K37-85 portfolio.

The standard crate fit K37 family has been manufactured from r-PET with at least 85% recyclate in the blend, according to the company. The portfolio is designed with a rib design for maximum visibility of the soft fruit as well as in-transit protection.

Sloping vents in the base allow the soft fruit to breathe even when the punnets are in transit from packhouse to retailer, reduce in pack condensation and improve the soft fruit's shelf life.

Holfeld Plastics operations director Frank Coleman said the recycled material used in the manufacture goes through the company's factory food grade 'superclean' system.

"By using recycled PET in our production much less energy is required significantly reducing our carbon emissions. The inclusion of 85% post consumer recyclate in our punnets has resulted in a 54% reduction in the carbon footprint of our products," Coleman added.

Modified flanges of the packaging allow for heat sealed or lidded options. About 28 colors are available to select from in the standard range.

Holfeld Plastics is a leading provider of Sustainable Packaging in Ireland, England and Northern Europe.
