A new distillery, Detroit City Distillery, is set to come up in the Eastern Market, Detroit in spring 2014.
The opening of Detroit City Distillery will follow the Two James Spirits distillery, which is scheduled to open in summer 2013 in Corktown, Detroit.
The new prohibition-themed micro-distillery will be constructed on an area of 2,700ft² in the former slaughterhouse at 2462 Riopelle Street, Eastern Market, reported Crain's Detroit Business.
It will feature a tasting room that will initially serve gin, whiskey and vodka; a 35-foot bar; and three copper stills purchased from Kentucky. It will also serve dishes like smoked fish and cured meats.
The distillery is the brainchild of seven young professionals, including distiller JP Jerome.
Jerome was quoted by the website as saying that he has already distilled the whiskey and is currently barrel-aging it for the opening.
The spirits from Detroit City Distillery will be sold at a retail price of just under $30.
