Core Tip: Precept Wine has purchased Yamhela vineyard of Yamhill-Carlton American Viticultural Area (AVA) in Oregon for an undisclosed amount.
Precept Wine, a Seattle-based privately owned wine company that owns and operates vineyards, wineries and tasting rooms, has purchased Yamhela vineyard of Yamhill-Carlton American Viticultural Area (AVA) in Oregon for an undisclosed amount.

The vineyard is part of the Willamette Valley AVA and has a reputation of producing Pinot Noir grapes.

First planted in 2007, the estate has a gross area of 374 acres, among which 30 acres are planted to premium Pinot Noir wine grapes. Precept plans to expand the 30 planted acres to 120 over the next five years.

Precept Wine vineyards vice president David Minick said the company aims to initially focus on the estate's winegrape-growing potential.

Precept Wine chief executive officer Andrew Browne said, "In pursuit of being the vineyard and winery leader over the next decade in the Northwest, we will continue to develop, acquire and grow our business working from a strong foundation of Northwest vineyards and wines with powerful brand names."

Zenith Vineyard principal Tim Ramney said Yamhela is well known for producing Pinot Noir in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA.

"Its neighbors, including the legendary Shea Vineyard, are among the most sought after vineyards in Oregon," Ramey added.

"Precept Wine's purchase of Yamhela is not its first venture in Oregon, but this will clearly be a cornerstone of the company's Oregon strategy."
