Core Tip: Woolworths announced that the price of hundreds of its most popular products have been cut by up to 33 per cent, weeks after Coles announced it would extend its ‘Down Down’ campaign.
Just weeks after rival supermarket group Coles announced it would extend its ‘Down Down’ campaign to cut the prices of big brands, Woolworths has announced that the price of hundreds of its most popular products have been cut by up to 33 per cent.

Products included in the price cut include MSA Australian beef, slice and shaved ham, Tip Top bread, Western Star Butter, Arnott’s multipacks and International Roast Coffee.

“Our customers have told us that finding savings in their family budget is more important than ever,” said Tjeerd Jegen, Managing Director of Woolworths. “We have taken a single-minded focus to delivering savings to our customers, every day, by making sure they are saving on the essential items that they buy most often,” he said.

“On average, customers will find between 40 and 50 Every Day Value price cuts in every single aisle,” Mr Jegen added.

Woolworths said the prices of these items will stay down for at least six months.

The price of MSA Australian rump steaks will be cut by almost 30 per cent per kilogram. Woolworths has also cut the price of other cuts of MSA beef by between 10 and 18 per cent. Sliced or shaved D’Orsonga Australian Honey Ham, available at the deli counter, will be 20 per cent cheaper.

Tip Top bread prices will be reduced by more than 11 per cent, and Western Star Butter prices by over 16 per cent.

The price of 500g tins of International Roast coffee will be reduced by $5.29, and cereals including Sanitarium Light n Tasty and Kellogg’s Cornflakes will be reduced in price by between 19 and 23 per cent.

Australian Food News reported earlier in May 2013 that Woolworths’ rival Coles had extended its price cut campaign to big brands including Vegemite, Milo and Old El Paso.
