Champagne Drappier, a France-based family-run Champagne house, has selected independent agent/wholesaler - Berkmann Wine Cellars - to distribute its products in the UK.

Berkmann Wine Cellars managing director Rupert Berkmann was quoted by Harpers as saying that the move was prompted by the high quality of Drappier's wines and claimed the partnership was a natural fit.

"In a period of rising costs, they continue to offer exceptional value for money and a range of wines that offer a real point of difference," Berkmann added.

"Perhaps the best example of this is 'Quattuor' - a blanc de blancs produced using the extremely rare Arbanne, Petit Meslier, Blanc Vrai (or Pinot Blanc) grape varieties, alongside the more traditional Chardonnay. As a fellow family business Champagne Drappier shares the same ethos and long-term vision as Berkmann."

Champagne Drappier winemaker Michel Drappier told the website that quality, family and a real wine culture are the watchwords they share with Berkmann.

"We look forward to working together in developing the Drappier brand in the UK, where Champagne connoisseurs are numerous and among the most knowledgeable in the world," Drappier added.

Producing Champagne since 1808, Champagne Drappier is mainly known for reintroducing Pinot Noir as post-phylloxera wines after the outbreak of vine root disease caused by phylloxera vastatrix species.

Drappier's portfolio of wines include Carte d'Or, Blanc de Blancs Signature, Brut Nature, Brut Nature Rose, Charles de Gaulle, Grande Sendree, Quattuor, Millesime Exception and others.
