Mavis Bank Coffee Factory (MBCF), a Jamaica-based coffee processor, has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to continue to export its Blue Mountain Coffee to the US.

The FDA has given approval based on the results of the detailed audit of the factory's standards, systems and procedures by the representatives of the agency.

Mavis offers Blue Mountain Coffee under its brand - JABLUM and JABLUM Gold.

The approval is expected to boost sales and allow the Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee brand to grow from strength to strength.

MBCF managing director and CEO Norman Grant said that the company has completed the audit this month and will now continue the process for HACCP certification by the end of 2013.

"As a result of this drive to capture and maintain market leadership, MBCF is also implementing the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) systems, improving our factory infrastructure and we are also constructing a world class waste water treatment facility (UASB) system which is estimated to cost J$105M," Grant added.

"Our successful audit means that Jamaica will continue to export Jamaica Blue Mountain ® Coffee into the North American market, which is currently estimated at US$5M."
