The New York City Health Department is urging some customers of a Westside Market here to get a hepatitis A vaccine after learning one of the retailer’s employees contracted the illness.
All customers who purchased fresh-cut fruit in-store, through catering or delivery from Aug. 9-22 may have been exposed to hepatitis A and should receive a vaccine as a precautionary measure, according to a statement from the Health Department.
“In full cooperation with the New York State Department of Health, the market has been inspected, and every employee was assessed, every single employee is being vaccinated, all of the foods that may have been effected by this potential matter has been discarded, and all of the facilities have been cleansed,” Westside Market said in a statement obtained by SN.
The store, located on the Upper West Side in Manhattan, remains open.
The city health department will provide free vaccinations at a local school Aug. 23-26.
