IMCD has acquired Makeni Chemicals in a bid to enter the Brazilian market. With the deal, IMCD will gain access to Makeni’s quality control and application labs, one of which focuses on applications in the nutrition segment.
Makeni, a specialty chemical distributor in Brazil, will still see Reinaldo Medrano as managing director of the company. The Medrano founding family will maintain a minority interest in the business.
Mr Rubens Medrano, the company founder, said: “We are very excited to have the opportunity to join forces with such a reputable international player like IMCD as it will enable us to expand in Brazil and further strengthen our services to our suppliers and customers.”
Makeni has a sales revenue of BRL 200m and employs more than 100 staff. Headquartered in Sao Paulo, the company has nine sales representative offices throughout Brazil.
