Retail sales in the Netherlands increased modestly in July, recovering from the previous month's contraction, data released by the Central Bureau of Statistics showed Thursday.
Retail sales turnover increased 1.2 percent year-on-year in July, reversing the previous month's 3.7 percent decrease.
The rebound was supported by a 6.9 percent growth in sales at food and beverages stores, and an 8.1 percent rise in sales at supermarkets. Offsetting these positive contributions partially, sales of non-food items decreased 2.6 percent from July 2012.
In volume terms, retail trade declined 1.6 percent in July from a year earlier. This followed a 6.2 percent fall in June, data showed.
