Creating 200 new jobs, the facility in Fakenham, will create a variety Sainsbury’s chilled desserts, ranging from Sherry Triffle to Chocolate Sundae
"Today is a great milestone for a number of reasons, not only does Fakenham create world inspiring desserts for our customers, it’s in line with our 2020 commitment to double our sales of British food," said Mike Coupe, commercial director at Sainsbury's.
More than 100 desserts, ranging in price from £1 to £4, will be produced every day in the factory and a specialist dessert maker has been appointed to create new recipes and train other colleagues.
The move comes as part of a partnership between Sainsbury's and Hain Daniels, the American owners of the Linda McCartney factory in Fakenham.
Hain Daniels invested £20 million into the new facility. Rob Burnett, chief executive of the Hain Daniels Group, said he was expecting their turnover to have doubled within a year as a result of the new facility.
