The National Association of Supermarkets and Department Stores (ANTAD) announced that their partners' equal sales- sales in stores with more than a year of operation- fell 3.2 % in September, an unfavourable turn compared with the 8.8% rise recorded in the same month of 2012.

This result was due to the short supply in several states of Mexico as a result of the effects of two hurricanes that occurred in mid-September. Additionally, there was one Saturday less this year than in 2012 in this period, eliminating a shopping day for Mexicans.

ANTAD, which brings together a hundred national retail chains, including Wal-Mart de Mexico (Walmex), Soriana and Chedraui, informed that the total sales of its partners rose 1.8 % in September.

Supermarket stores decreased equal sales by 4.0% but increased total sales by 0.4 %. Equal sales at speciality stores fell 3.5 %, although its total sales increased by 3.2 %.
