Craig Hall from RD8 said, "The dropping of tariffs to Taiwan will give New Zealand a chance to be more competitive in a very important market for NZ cherry Industry."
"This has been on the radar for while now. RD8 currently export 80MT to Taiwan, this could increase now but it will depend a lot on demand, Chinese New Year, and competitive volumes from other suppliers such as Tasmania and Chile."
The first varieties from New Zealand will be Sonnet, Celeste, Chelan the early varieties, then it will switch to the main ones, Stella, Lapin, Sweetheart, Stacatto, Kordia. The New Zealand season runs until early February.
The main export markets for RD8 are Taiwan, Thailand, China, South East Asia.
