First Drinks Brands, a UK-based wine and spirit distributor, has said that it will end its distribution agreement with France-based spirit producer Rémy Cointreau.

The decision comes after Rémy Cointreau has planned to establish its own route to market in the UK for The Botanist and Bruichladdich.

Following the termination of the agreement on 31 March 2014, Rémy Cointreau UK Distribution Company will oversee the distribution of Rémy Martin, Cointreau, Mount Gay Rum and Passoã.

Commenting on the transaction, First Drinks Brands managing director Chris Mason said that the company is very proud of the fantastic results it has delivered in building the Rémy Cointreau brands over the last five years.

Rémy Cointreau Europe, Africa and Middle East region managing director Spyros Ghikas said, "We would like to thank First Drinks for its efforts in building the Rémy Cointreau portfolio over the last five years and we wish them well for the future."

First Drinks Brands, which operates as a subsidiary of William Grant & Sons, markets, sells, and distributes wine, spirit and other alcoholic beverage products.
