From the ten lrgest importers of Spanish aubergines, Belgium was the country paying the best prices during the first nine months of the year, with an average of 1.56 Euro per kilo, according to Fepex.
The second place in the ranking was for Sweden (1.34 Euro/kilo), followed by Portugal, with 1.335 Euro/kilo. The fourth best importer was the Netherlands, which paid an average of 1.295 Euro/kilo.
The country paying the lowest prices for Spain's aubergines from the ten largest importers was Italy, barely reaching 0.903 Euro/kilo, followed by the Czech Republic (0.986 Euro/kilo), France (0.991) and the United Kingdom, which paid an average of 1.183 Euro/kilo.
The average price of all aubergines exported by Spain during the first nine months of 2013 was of 1.098 Euro/kilo, while for the same period in 2012, the price stood at 0.843 Euro per kilo.
The average price paid by EU countries was of 1.086 Euro per kilo, while the exports to non-EU destinations reached an average price of 1.355 Euro/kilo.
Between January and September 2013, the value of Spain's aubergine exports increased by around 20.45% compared to the same period in the previous year. Spain made a total of 92.50 million Euro in revenue from those exports, compared to the 76.79 million achieved in 2012.
As for the total volume, 84.27 million kilos of aubergines were exported during the period at hand; 7.39% less than in 2012.
The main importers
The ten largest importers of Spanish aubergines between January and September were France, with 33.13 million kilos; Germany, 15.40 million kilos; Italy, 10.74; the Netherlands, 7.71; United Kingdom, 5.42; Belgium, 1.26; Portugal, 1.11; Czech Republic, 0.89; Poland, 0.86 and Sweden, which purchased 0.75 million kilos.
