Continental Mills, a US-based food manufacturer, has purchased a dry mix manufacturing facility in Effingham, Illinois, from Harlan Bakeries, for an undisclosed sum.
Built by Krispy Kreme in 2001, the 190,000ft² was sold to Harlan Bakeries in 2008. It can manufacture up to 225 million pounds of dry mixes.
The acquisition strengthens Continental Mills' manufacturing footprint in the country., The company operates facilities in Kent, Washington; Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Manhattan, Kansas.
Continental Mills president and CEO John Heily said that the purchase of this facility expands the company's manufacturing capacity in the East, and supports its long term growth strategy.
"We are very excited to integrate the facility and employees into our organization."
The company will continue partnership with Harlan Bakeries to supply industrial bakery mixes to various Harlan customers.
