Aker BioMarine, a company supplying krill-derived omega-3 phospholipid products, has achieved “New Food Raw Material” status for Superba Krill in China. Aker BioMarine says it was the first krill oil supplier to submit an application to the Ministry of Health of the People’s Republic of China, now part of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, and played a key role in supporting the scientific evaluation.

“We are pleased with the outcome of the review of clinical and safety data of krill oil by the National Health and Family Planning Commission and delighted to be able to announce that we can now enter the Chinese market with Superba Krill,” said Andreas Thorud, China chief representative from the local Aker BioMarine Shanghai representative office. “The New Food Raw Material approval enables us to leverage the high awareness and recognition Aker BioMarine already enjoys in the Chinese health food market.”

To better support Chinese customers’ needs, particularly for regulatory applications, Aker BioMarine has expanded its team in China by hiring Jim Wang as regulatory and business development manager. Wang will be responsible for establishing close contacts with customers and developing Superba Krill into a competitive omega-3 supplement product for Chinese consumers. He previously worked in China’s biotech industry.

“We welcome Jim to our team and look forward to working with him to create new business opportunities in China,” said Tim de Haas, vice president business development, Aker BioMarine. “Entering the Chinese health food market is a huge opportunity and a milestone for our worldwide expansion. We feel confident that with our local presence we can fully support our customers in this key market.”
