Multinational company PepsiCo opened a Seed Production Centre in the region of Tachira (Venezuela), which will ensure them with 100% of their chip-stock production program supply.
According to a statement from the company, the potato's productivity can increase thanks to the use of biotechnology, via in vitro culture or through greenhouses, in this new Seed Production Centre.
Currently, the new centre's plans for this first year focus on the production of 100,000 Minitubers, base for the production of potato seeds, of which they expected to generate 4,000 tonnes by 2019.
Tachira's plant, which has been in operation since 1976, is PepsiCo's largest facility in Venezuela (its other facility is in Aragua). The plant has a workforce of 1,029 employees and a new group of skilled workers in the plant genetics field.
