Tasmania expects good onion season

The onion harve onionst of the company Field Fresh Tasmania is on schedule at the moment. Despite the wet and cold start FFT expect a good season with consistent and reliable class 1 product. According to Luc Delabie of FFT the most important objective of the company is to supply quality.

"Harvesting started at the end of December and the actual harvest then starts in the middle of January and lasts till the end of April. The harvested capacity is about 1,200 tonnes per day. The brown onions are shipped from the beginning of February and the red onions from the middle of February."

The onions are grown on the northwest coast on the island of Tasmania. Field Fresh Tasmania has about 50 growers with an average area of 17 HA for each grower. Tasmania is one of the richest horticultural areas of the southern hemisphere. The company supplies Europe, Asia and Australia with various vegetables and onions.
