Due to frosts that hit lemon-producing regions in Argentina, production is expected to drop by 40 percent for the 2013-2014 season when compared to the previous season's production.
In addition to frosts that damaged trees during the winter of 2013, drought also affected Argentina's lemon production, according to a report by the USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service. While estimates for the 2012-2013 season put lemon production at 1.3 MMT, estimates for the 2013-2014 season put production at 750,000 MT due to adverse weather.
Orange production for 2013-2014 is expected to increase by 50,000 MT from the previous season to 550,000 MT while tangerine production is expected to increase by 10,000 MT to 260,000 MT for the same time period. Grapefruit production is expected to drop by 10,000 MT to 60,000 MT for the 2013-2014 season.
