Tilaknagar Industries, an India-based producer of Mansion House and Courrier Napoleon brandies, is in talks to acquire Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) maker Imperial Spirits, in a deal worth INR4bn ($64.7m).

The move forms part of the company's plan to bolster its position in the south Indian brandy market.

Imperial Spirits currently has production facilities in Kerala, Karnataka and Goa, and plans to enter into Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in the future. It produces over 500,000 cases of foreign liquor every month.

Following the completion of the deal, the company will get Imperial's portfolio including Imperial XO Premium brandy and VSOP Brandy.

Tilaknagar Industries has also secured approval for the acquisition of the complete IMFL business of BSE-listed IFB Agro Industries, which sells vodka brand Volga and Blue Lagoon gin.

Tilaknagar Industries manufactures and sells Indian made foreign liquor and its related products in India. Its products include whiskey, brandy, rum, gin, and vodka.

In addition, the company manufactures and sells sugar cubes; packaged drinking water under the Senate Royale brand name.
