Core Tip: Round the division of the volume of vegetables at Greenyard Food some misunderstandings developed recently.
Round the division of the volume of vegetables at Greenyard Food some misunderstandings developed recently. This as told by Herwig Dejonghe, COO.
"Each company in the group focusses on a number of products and that is logical. Not every factory is involved in all vegetables, because we are a group of companies. In Belgium we do a lot of cauliflower and we will do more production in general in Belgium this coming season than last year. Courgettes were a small product in Belgium and could not be processed as we have other vegetables on the production lines during the season. Consequently we are still growing in production in our region, but not in the area of courgettes. In order to divide it correctly we have chosen for the production of courgettes to take place in Poland, because there are more possibilities for this vegetable. Of course we are an international group and every country has its strong points and products.
Therefore changes in production occur."

Herwig: "Actually at the moment we are in discussions with 23 courgettes growers in the area in order to guide this change well. Unfortunately there were a number of people in the press who have drawn conclusions too rapidly without obtaining sufficient information about what actually happens."

New production line in Comines

He mentions that at their production location Comines, about 25 km below Westrozebeke, they will invest this year in a brand new production line. "This site we took over from d'Aucy at the time. Three lines will disappear and we will establish one new large one and with the new technologies the production capacity will grow somewhat. The larger line compensates the three other ones. Therefore this means that we will continue to invest in Flanders. We believe in our region and the Flemish deep-freeze industry."
