According to the Ministers of Agriculture and Agri-food, French agri-food exports grew 3.3% in 2013. The positive figure for the sector is evaluated at 11.5 billion Euro.
''It is the first, very encouraging result of the export development strategy on all emerging markets, notably Asia and Latin America'', the two Ministers stated in a communiqué.
They say that these results, constantly growing over the last 18 months, show the quality of products ''made in France'' and ''the vitality of the agri-food sector which could consolidate and create employment on the territories where it has been implemented, also contributing to an economic recovery in France.''
Overall deficit of 61.2 billion Euro
Overall, the figures from the French Foreign Trade centre are improving but remaining low. Nicole Bricq, Minister of French Foreign Trade, presented the 2013 figures on 7th February, 6 billion less in deficit in 2013 compared to 2012.
However, the trade deficit is still at 61.2 billion Euro for last year. The cause: higher French energy bills that weigh heavily in the trade balance. Contrarily, in Germany, the trade balance is record breaking with unprecedented export volumes.
In France, only three sectors are promising, ''agri-food with +3.3%, pharmacy with +2.5% and aeronautics +1%'' lists Nicole Bricq.
