The pomelo season in China is slowly coming to and end, but the market in Europe is still in full swing, says Wim van der Schoot of De Groot International. "As mentioned previously, we have shipped more containers this year than in previous years. We know how to serve our customers with these numbers, but other than that is has been reasonably quiet on the pomelo market."
"The weeks around the holidays are usually characterised by quiet pomelo sales. Now that they have passed, a positive growth in the market can be seen. The demand is pulling up again and we are receiving various orders for full trucks every day," continues Wim.
The importer says that the contacts and the efforts of the 'Pomelo Association' in China are bearing their fruits. "The suppliers are more conscious of the European MRL guidelines and the number of issues seems to have decreased. Our own quality department also has good contact with our suppliers and this has meant that there hasn't been a single MRL breach recorded in the containers imported by De Groot International, whilst over 25% of our containers were checked by the NVWA. Some containers that were not checked by the NVWA were checked for MRL's anyway by our quality department."
After the Chinese season De Groot International will switch to the Vietnamese pomelos.
