Treasury Wine Estates (TWE) has appointed Michael Clarke as the company’s new chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director.

Clarke has more than 20 years of senior leadership experience of working at major consumer goods companies like Kraft Foods and The Coca-Cola Company.

Prior to joining Treasury Wine Estates, Clarke served as CEO of the UK publicly listed Premier Foods.

Speaking on the new appointment, TWE chairman Paul Rayner said Clarke's work on some of the world's leading brands is second to none, and he has previously lived and worked in Australia, America, Asia and Europe; all key regions where TWE operates.

"In addition, he has extensive agri-business and consumer drinks experience. In short, he has proven leadership ability and a track record of consistently driving improved business results," Rayner noted.

Clarke will join TWE in March this year, subject to obtaining the necessary visa approvals, and will formally commence as CEO on 31 March 2014.
