The Maltese government was in discussions with several countries through its network of embassies to export pork. However, a crash in market prices has led to any possible deals falling through.
According to The Malta Independent, though it is hard to believe that business is actually done in this way, Minister Leo Brincat told Opposition MP Censu Galea that Maltese ambassadors were trying to strike a deal in various countries.
However "although interest was shown, international developments in the last weeks caused a drop in prices on the international market and therefore, at present, it does not seem that any exportations may materialise."
