US-based Somerville Brewing will build a new brewery, retail experience and taproom in the Boynton Yards, Somerville, Massachusetts.

The company expects to open the new brewery and taproom in around five to six months. The plan is subject to federal, state and local permitting.

After completion, the new brewery will add nearly 2,500 barrels to the company's production capacity.

Somerville Brewing co-founder and head brewer Jeff Leiter said that the company's partnership with Mercury Brewing is still strong and successful, but its new brewery provides tremendous creative freedom to explore a range of projects on smaller scales.

"Most importantly though, we gain the ability to interact directly with our customers on a consistent basis. The taproom is a vital way to share our story with beer drinkers," added Leiter.

In addition to the beers offered by the company, the new taproom will feature local foods, including a selection of cheese and charcuterie boards, a deconstructed Fluffernutter, beer-inspired soup and other small snacks.
