US-based pork product producer Indiana Packers is set to open new pork product production operations in the City of Frankfort, a move which will generate 25 jobs initially and 98 jobs by 2016.
The company will buy and equip the existing 56,500ft² former Birchwood Foods facility at 1150 Vermont Street for fresh pork shipping and warehousing receiving.
In addition, value-added processed fresh pork production lines may be transferred to the plant in the future.
Mayor Chris McBarnes said that the working relationship between the City of Frankfort and Indiana Packers promises to be a very positive and productive one.
"In welcoming the national leader in the production of premium pork products into our community as a new and valued corporate citizen, Frankfort strengthens its position as the city that feeds the state that feeds the world," McBarnes said.
Operations at the new plant are scheduled to begin in August this year.
