Last week, Thuy Hai Seafood Processing in Thai Binh, Vietnam, opened a one of the largest fishmeal processing plants in Asia, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

The facility has a processing capacity of 450 metric tons (MT).

Construction on the factory began in February 2013 on a 5 hectare area in the Thuy Tan industrial park with an investment of VND 120 billion (USD 5,689,900/EUR 4,116,072).

The plant has four synchronous production lines that were manufactured in Thailand under the EU technology. It uses mainly rice husk and sawdust as the fuel to operate steam supplying system with capacity of 21 MT per hour.

The factory uses Unitank wastewater treatment system that treats wastewater by microorganism and ensure safe water before discharging to the environment.

VASEP said the fishmeal production process will be supervised closely. Fresh raw fish is dried and removed impurities before being ground into feed.

The factory's operation contributes to decreasing the import of fishmeal, to boosting the use of marine stock in the North Central region and to raising the income of coastal fishermen.
