The current production estimates is 7 million tonnes higher than the production last year. During 2012-13, food production was recorded at 257.13 million tonnes last year.

Rice production is expected at record106.29 million tonne and wheat production is expected to reach 95.85 million tonnes, again a record, the statement said.

The ministry said that record production has also been achieved in the case of tur (3.38 million tonne), gram (9.93 million tonnes), maize (24.19 million tonnes), all pulses put together (19.57 million tonne) and jute (10.82 million bales).

However, soybean meal declined to 11.95 million tonnes, as compared to 14.66 million tonnes produced during the 2012-13.

Cotton production also recorded 3 million bales, which stood at 37 million bales in 2013-14, against 34 million bales last year (1 bale=170 kg), whereas sugarcane output stood at 348 million tonnes, up from 341 million tonnes last year.
