The children’s food industry is set for a shake-up following the launch of Sweetpea Pantry, a company which provides a unique offering in the child and bake-at-home mixes market.
Using all-natural super foods to create kits for parents to cook with their children, Sweetpea hopes to attract a range of consumers with it’s new listing.
The brand, which also believes in the importance of creating opportunities for parents to spend quality time with their children, has already caught the attention of leading food retailers and distributers Ocado and Cotswold Fayre.
Sweetpea Pantry’s selection of mixes went live this month on Ocado and feature as part of their Easter promotion, while the full range will also be available through Cotswold Fayre from the beginning of May.
With nearly 10% of reception-aged UK children now obese the importance of child nutrition has never been more significant.
To counter the ever-increasing trend towards products for children with high sugar and salt content, Sweetpea Pantry’s baking kits are nutritionally loaded with wholesome, all-natural ingredients without compromising on the all-important taste.
The range of five mixes was developed with leading paediatric nutritionist Belinda Blake and food scientist Lucy Thomas of Tastemaker who has previously worked on the development of products for Innocent and Graze. Sweetpea Pantry’s range includes: Super Oat Flapjacks (with quinoa); Chocolate Giggles (with wholegrain barley and raw cacao); Grainy Brainy Pancakes (with buckwheat and flax – Gluten-free); Ginger Giggles (with wholegrain barley and rye); and Playful Pizza Dough (with chia and flax).
As well as working with leading nutritional experts, Sweetpea Pantry founders Philippa Askham and Tanya Mitchell have also received expert mentoring from some of the leading names in the industry including Richard Reed of Innocent, Louise Allen of Teapigs, Giles Brook of Vita Coco and Charlotte Knight of G’Nosh.
Philippa Askham, Co-Founder of Sweetpea Pantry, said:
“We hatched the idea for Sweetpea Pantry knowing that busy parents can lack the time to teach their children the joys of cooking and are often prepared to admit defeat when it comes to altering their children’s taste for high sugar and fat-based off-the-shelf treats.
“Our mix kits provide a fun and bite size introduction to baking, which not only taste delicious, but also educate kids about the benefits of healthy eating.
“We’re incredibly grateful for all the advice and support we’ve had from some great names within the food industry and have been overwhelmed by the great feedback we’ve received.”
In addition to super food mixes which can be bought on subscription, Sweetpea Pantry also offers a range of kitchen utensils and accessories.
