Radical makeover for Tesco Finest confectionery

Core Tip: A new packaging format has been unveiled for Tesco Finest’s range of artisan confectionery, created by Confection By Design
The packs were Tescomanufactured by National Flexible and incorporate a flow wrap packaging film using textured kraft paper with a registered shaped window coupled with silver hot foil. Tesco wanted to package sugar confectionery in flexible film and not just boxes, in a bid to appeal to a wider market.

The ‘Finest’ text is foiled to add a high quality finish and the window makes the product as visual as possible. Harrogate-based Confection By Design had to retain windows and hot foiling but using flexible film to form an automated vertical quad pack.

Jane Holmes, CBD’s Product Manager said “Flexible packaging in reel format with a registered shaped window and hot foil had not been done before but we asked National Flexible our film supplier for their help and the resultant pack fills all the criteria from Tesco’s and has produced an excellent pack which we are delighted with.

“The most important thing about the launch was to make sure the range looked perfect and National Flexible were a great support throughout this project, they quickly fine tuned options for us to trial and helped us make sure it was deliverable within the launch period. Added complications were always met with enthusiastic solutions and support throughout, even after the launch.”

A Tesco spokesman added: “We have tried to do this before without success. It is pleasing to see what can happen when an innovative packaging supplier works together with an innovative packer.”
