Saddle Blablack beerck, a full flavoured black beer dedicated to cyclists, is available in 330ml bottles from 2014.

Created by Purity Brewing Co. Saddle Black is made using smoked, chocolate and black malts and New World hops Chinook and Cascade.

Together these create a well-rounded beer at 7 abv with aromas of citrus, chocolate and espresso.

The draught brew was originally launched at the Wellington Pub in Birmingham, where the great and good from the world of beer and representatives from the cycling community gave it a resounding thumbs up.

The launch of Saddle Black in bottle coincides with two events for cycling in the U.K. Firstly the Tour De France begins in Yorkshire and secondly the film ‘Bicycle’ will be premiered.

‘Bicycle’ asks the question why is cycling and the bicycle back in fashion? Why the current Zeitgeist?

The film explores these themes and tells the story of cycling in the land that invented the modern bicycle, its birth, decline and re-birth from Victorian origins to today.

The film weaves bicycle design, sport and transport and features interviews with notable contributors like Sir David Brailsford, Gary Fisher, David Sproxton, Dannielle Khan, Sir Chris Hoy, Mike Burrows, Chris Boardman and many more.

Purity Brewing Co. is proud to sponsor this project and will be attending the world premiere of the film where Saddle Black will be served to the cycling glitterati.

Paul Halsey, MD of Purity Brewing Co. said:

“As a keen cyclist, I wanted to create a beer dedicated to the British cycling community and as a celebration of the craft that goes into making both beer and bicycles.

“Brooks England and Pashley Cycles are long established West Midland companies at the forefront of their trade and we saw a synergy between their passion and craftsmanship and our values.

“Saddle Black has proved hugely popular so we’re very excited to launch the bottle just in time for the Tour de France.”

Saddle Black can be paired with high flavour, tangy hard cheeses such as Black Bomber cheddar. I

t also suits rich chocolate puddings, chocolate cake, tarts and tortes.

Available in bottles priced at £1.99.
