Core Tip: High strength trays for reduced breakages, excellent service and flexibility of UK manufacture help secure latest business for food packaging specialist.
In an unprecedented Faerch Plastmove, Cook – one of the UK’s leading manufacturers and retailers of premium frozen ready meals – has further strengthened its 12-year relationship with Faerch Plast by appointing the food packaging specialist as its sole supplier of CPET trays.

The decision to appoint Faerch Plast followed a competitive tender process. Cook chose Faerch Plast for a number of key reasons, most notably the consistently high performance of its specially developed Frost CPET material in extreme temperatures – down to -4F (-20c) degrees.

Tony Mayer, Head of Operational Procurement at Cook says: “Although we have used Faerch Plast for over 12 years, it wasn’t until they developed the Frost CPET specifically for frozen meal concepts that we could consider moving more of the CPET business across. The contract with our previous supplier came to an end last year so we invited other packaging companies to submit tenders.

Tony continues: “We’re pleased to say that Faerch Plast won the tender. Making them sole supplier was an unusual move for us as we prefer not to rely on one company. However, based on our past experience of Faerch Plast’s excellent products and service delivery, as

well as competitive pricing, we were confident and happy to award them exclusivity. The fact that the trays are manufactured at their plant in Durham with flexible turnaround times was another influencing factor.

“Our impact on the planet is also of great concern and Faerch Plast has strong green credentials which helps us to meet our recycling and environmental targets,” he concludes.

Natasha Byng-Maddick, Faerch Plast’s Key Accounts and Sales Manager GB (South) comments: “We are delighted to secure this sole supplier agreement between Faerch Plast and Cook. They have always been happier with dual supply but extensive testing on our Frost CPET to reduce tray breakages and the opening of our plant in the North West offered peace of mind that we could meet all their capacity and quality requirements.

“The team at Cook is a real pleasure to deal with and the company still maintains strong family values despite its success. I’m looking forward to the relationship between our two businesses continuing to thrive and prosper in the years ahead.

Faerch Plast’s wide range of CPET trays feature dual ovenability and a wide temperature tolerance from -4F (-20c) degrees to 430F (220c) degrees, for freezer-to-oven or microwave convenience. CPET eliminates negative effects on food flavour and aroma, giving consumers well protected, more versatile and better tasting meals.
