European packaging firm Faerch Plast has developed a new Re-lock packaging tray with a re-closeable feature, as part of its ongoing efforts to increase focus on the chilled food and snacks segment.

The new Re-lock tray incorporates an integral peelable film rather than a separate or hinged lid. It has been manufactured using amorphous polyethylene terephthalate (APET).

Faerch Plast stated that the tray is suitable for fruits, salads, dips and cold meats and allows consumers to view the contents inside.

The Re-lock range features three variations on the re-closeable film lid principal. Each of it has been designed to make it easier for consumers to peel back the film.

Available in various tray shapes and sizes, the new tray is suitable for modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) sealing.

Consumers can re-close the product either by clicking a tab attached to the film into place or slipping a tab through a pre-cut opening in the packaging, depending on the type of closures used.

Faerch Plast UK managing director Joe Iannidinardo said, "If the food from a Re-lock container is not eaten in one sitting, consumers will now have the option of re-closing the tray and saving it for another time, without the need for a separate lid or an alternative means of covering the contents, such as cling film or foil."

Faerch Plast, established in 1969, supplies plastics packaging products to customers in the ready meal, fresh meat, cold foods and snacks, and ambient food sectors with a wide range of containers and trays produced from PS, CPET, APET, PP, PLA, MAPET and AMPET.
