MWV has expanded its presence in Brazil’s packaging market and is now supplying innovative solutions to the food service sector.
The company recently introduced brand owners to a product that assists fast food chains operating in delivery, to-go and drive-through systems with beverage transport.
According to ABIA – the Brazilian Food Industry Association, the growth of the emerging middle class has boosted the food service sector. Currently, 38 percent of meals are consumed outside the home, or take place in the shape of ready-made meals, according to specialized sector consultancy company ECD.
Eyeing the potential of this market, MWV, one of the main suppliers of corrugated cardboard packages in Brazil, has developed an innovative system for beverage transport that is customized for fast food chains operating in delivery and drive-thru systems.
“This is our main product dedicated to this sector, and we are working with brand owners to develop new customized products aligned with their growth strategies,” said Paulo Iserhard, vice president at MWV Rigesa – Negócio de Papelão Ondulado (MWV Rigesa – Corrugated Cardboard Business).
Produced out of MWV’s HyPerform, a new generation of kraft liner paper for packaging with greater resistance, the product provides food safety and traceability, guaranteed by the raw material. An additional benefit of the product is its high sustainability for sophisticated printing with Rigegraphics technology, expanding the quality identified by consumers and integrating protection with visual communication on the product.
MWV’s new packaging solution for Brazil’s beverage industry offers a unique design that is easy to assemble and stabilizes the cup, avoiding spillage during transportation.
It may be adapted for the transport of 200 to 700 ml cups, 350 ml cans and 600 ml bottles and it’s available in the traditional supports for two or four products, already common on the market, and in the innovative convertible version, for two or four cups.
The first food service operator in Brazil to benefit from MWV’s newly introduced packaging solution is Quiznos. Quiznos has been in the country since 2011, operating in the fast food restaurant sector, and offering sandwiches, flatbreads, soup and salads. Undergoing great expansion since its arrival, the chain currently has 46 locations in Brazil and forecasts 150 by the end of 2015.
