MeadWestvaco Corporation, a global leader in packaging and packaging solutions, today announced the launch of EnShield™ kit 5, a new lightweight paperboard for packaging foods that require resistance to oil and grease. EnShield kit 5 offers market-appropriate barrier protection for moderately greasy foods and delivers best-in-class performance with printability, consistency and uniformity.
Based on proprietary research, MWV learned that consumers frequently encounter an issue with their to-go food packaging soaking up oil and grease from their meal. In fact, 26 percent of consumers frequently encounter this issue and 59 percent said it was a major annoyance. EnShield kit 5 was developed to offer brand owners an opportunity to improve consumer satisfaction for food packaging with the right barrier protection while meeting corporate sustainability goals. The paperboard is fully repulpable and recyclable*, improving packaging end-of-life options versus traditional poly-coated boards.
"Consumer product companies and food service operators make significant investments in developing foods that consumers will love, and packaging can serve as an important extension of those brands," said William Kuecker, director of marketing, MWV. "EnShield kit 5 protects the integrity of packaged and to-go foods, leading to a better consumer experience, and also offers a new sustainable alternative to traditional poly-coated paperboard."
MWV launched EnShield kit 5 today at the 2014 Research Chef's Association (RCA) Culinology Expo, which attracts food industry professionals and suppliers. The expo has become the venue to launch new, cutting edge products and processes that exemplify culinology, the blending of culinary arts and food technology. The show is based in Portland, Oregon and runs from Tuesday, March 11 to Friday, March 14. Visit MWV at booth 903 for more information about EnShield kit 5 and to see product samples.
