US-based food company General Mills has added a new diet, Suddenly Grain Salad, to its portfolio of pasta salads.

Suddenly Grain Salad is a mix of grains such as brown rice, wild rice, wheat berries and quinoa. It is paired with flavourful herbs and spices, dried fruit, vegetables and nut mix-ins that create a blend of bold flavours and textures.

The salads are available in three variants - Harvest, Tuscan and Southwest Grain.

Available in a 6.7oz package, the Harvest Grains mix includes brown, wild and red rice, quinoa, cranberries and almonds with blush wine vinaigrette.

The Tuscan Grains mix includes brown rice, wheat berries, quinoa, almonds and red peppers with tomato parmesan herb dressing, whereas the Southwest Grains mix includes brown rice, quinoa, black beans, corn and red peppers with chipotle vinaigrette.

While Tuscan Grains mix is available in 5.9oz package, the Southwest Grains mix is sold in 5.5oz package.

General Mills marketing manager Jeremiah Palmer said a grain salad that you can eat cold is a novel concept.

"We know Americans love pasta salad, and they are trying to get more whole grains into their diet. This product is the perfect blend of these two desires and we're ecstatic to introduce it into the market in this 'all in one' convenient format," Palmer added.
