A new product has landed and is hitting shelves at Wing Yip, the UK’s Oriental grocer.
Wing Yip has become one of the first UK retailers to stock street food favourite, hirata buns.
Already a staple in many trendy and Michelin starred restaurants and the street food trade, Wing Yip has introduced the buns to its Birmingham, Croydon and Cricklewood stores to keep up with the latest food trends as well as the demand for healthier snacking alternatives.
Hirata buns are free from additives and preservatives and are suitable for vegetarians, vegans and those who are lactose intolerant meaning they are a great alternative to other types of bread.
The Chinese-style baps are sweet, soft and slightly chewy and are best steamed in a bamboo steamer to retain moisture.
Served warm, hirata buns are usually filled with strips of marinated meat, crunchy pickles and other vegetables and various herbs and spices depending on the desired flavour.
Brian Yip, Director of Wing Yip, said:
“We’re always reviewing our product range and look to constantly offer the latest and tastiest Oriental food products to our customers.
“As a nation of foodies, we’re always looking for the next big trend to try.
“Earlier this year it was the durian fruit but now people are turning to hirata buns to create their very own Asian street food experience at home.”
