The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the fish import licence of Almanic Canada Ltd., effective August 1, 2014. The importing company is located in Downsview, Ontario.

The import licence was suspended because the company had sold imported product without permission from the CFIA, and had imported fish products that did not meet mandatory labelling requirements under the Fish Inspection Regulations.

The company may not import fish into Canada while its import licence is suspended.

There is no food recall associated with this suspension.

An appeal can be requested within 60 days of the suspension of the licence. This request must be accompanied by an acceptable written corrective action plan.

Licences and registrations of federally registered establishments or companies can be suspended or cancelled for failing to comply with relevant CFIA Acts and Regulations.
