chicken growers on Sunday said there has been a shortage of supply in Metro Manila after Typhoon Glenda (Rammasun) barreled across Luzon last month.According to a "News TV Live" report aired on Sunday, Philippine Association of Broiler Integrators president Rita Imelda Palabyab has admitted that there is a shortage of chicken in the National Capital Region, reports GMANews.
She said the shortage may last until next month as poultry farmers in Southern Luzon were gravely affected by the typhoon.
Poultry farms in the provinces of Quezon, Laguna, Cavite, and Batangas lost some five million chickens–worth around P250 million–as the typhoon lashed Southern Luzon, the report said.
Chicken prices will remain at around P150 per kilo until next month, the report said.
Last week, hashtag #ChickenSad trended online as netizens complained that fast food chain Jollibee's famous ChickenJoy meals were not available in some branches.
The fast food chain has denied that a supply shortage is to blame, saying instead that some branches were affected by a "system upgrade".
