Malaysia Kitchen, the programme promoting Malaysian food in the UK which was created by MATRADE, has launched at Ocado, the online supermarket, this week. The Malaysia Kitchen standalone shop, which sits as part of the overall ocado.com site, hosts a vast array of authentic Malaysian ingredients.
Malaysia Kitchen worked in conjunction with importers of Malaysian foods to ensure a wide variety of products were listed with 70 products listed online, with a further 80 to be introduced by the end of the year.
Malaysian food has grown in popularity in the UK in recent years. This year will see the fifth year of the popular Malaysia Night event, on Friday 26 September. Trafalgar Square is to be transformed into Malaysia for one night as over 40,000 people are expected to attend the event to try Malaysian cuisine from over 20 different restaurants.
Ping Coombes, current MasterChef Champion, has also helped to raise the profile of Malaysian food in the UK, as she won the competition cooking Malaysian cuisine.
