In the current season the Golden Delicious apples still hold the first place among the most popular apple varieties in the EU. As estimated by the World Association of Manufacturers of pears and apples (WAPA), in the season 2014/15 this variety will have about 22% of the total apple harvest in the EU. This year, the gross yield of apple variety Golden Delicious in the EU is expected to reach 2.59 million tonnes, which is 2% higher than the result of the previous season.
The Gala variety comes second in popularity among European gardeners. In the current season it is estimated to have about 11% of the apple harvest in the EU. The variety Idared takes the third prize with its 9%.
