Chatteris based root vegetable specialist Alan Bartlett and Sons have welcomed to their site the worldʼs first fully automated parsnip trimming line.
Developed in partnership with Dutch engineering firm, Feltracon, the machinery offers a series of benefits – notably, increased output capacity and an improved cut of parsnip to enhance in-store presentation.
Director, Terry Hawthorn comments, We have always been dedicated to finding the most effective ways to work and this acquisition will have a large, positive impact on the quality of our produce and our retailer offering.
The idea for the trimming line follows internal project and analysis work undertaken by the business, focused on increased productivity coupled with reduced labour costs.
The project has been in development for over two years and has seen Alan Bartlett and Sons fund over £1m of costs to ensure its successful integration into the market.
To further enhance the operationʼs quality output, investment has also been made in new industry leading Wyma washers.
The automated trimming line is expected to be running at full capacity within
the next few weeks.
