The Romanian Liberal MEP Daniel Buda kicked off a campaign to encourage the consumption of domestic products called: "Eat Romanian products, eat healthy!" In Bistrita, a team of young liberals led by Doris Moldovan, vice president of the PNL Bistrita-Nasaud and adviser to the MEP, handed out free apples to those attending the "Autumn Bistrita" festival.

"The campaign's objective is to promote and stimulate the consumption of Romanian fruit and vegetables, meat products, eggs, bread and dairy. We thank our colleagues from Bistrita that took part and were involved in this campaign," wrote Doris Moldovan on Facebook.

As an MEP and member of the Agriculture Commission in the European Parliament, MEP Daniel Buda wants to encourage citizens to consume Romanian products, pointing out that stimulating the consumption of fruit and vegetables of Romanian origin is not just a way to support local producers, but also a chance to rediscover the authentic taste of fruit and vegetables and their healthy properties.

The MEP's initiative followed the decision of the Russian Federation not to import most foodstuffs from EU countries, including Romania, but it has also been motivated by the difficulties Romanian producers are suffering as a result of this year's severe drought.
