The campaign of 2014/2015 passed almost without a hick, into the new season. The old stocks could virtually be cleared completely, so that there was no pressure to market the products of the new harvest.
The clearing of the old harvests Jonagold is currently in its final stages.
The first early species reached the market at the start of August, about a week later than last year. The assortment steadily expanded and was completed by the first Elstar in calendar week 34.
The outflow through the processing industry has a clearing effect on the market in light of the strong cider prices of 14.99 €/dt (Ø CW 32 to 39, +207 % export growth) in the fruit region of Lake Constance, so that the last products from the old harvest can fly off the market. Table apples achieved 53.05 €/dt (+51 % export growth) in the same time frame.
Last season around this time, there were already several promotions in LEH to boost demand. This year there are hardly any promotions going on, because there is comparatively little product available. That's why this season only 8,090 tons of table products have been marketed (-41% export).
According to a first estimate by Prognosfruit, the harvest quantity at Lake Constance will be 209,000 tons, for Germany they estimate 885,000 tons (-21%). A harvest of 1,197 million tons is expected in the EU, which is 5% less than last year. They are expecting a reduction of 69,000 tons, or 25%, for Lake Constance.
The harvest declines are a cause of the interplay between the long winter, local bloom frost, bad fruition, sunburn, and growth lagging behind due to drought, which influences calibre size.
The price for organic apples in the natural food retail trade was € 229/ dt.
