"Eachtling" is what the people in Lungau call their potatoes, and those potatoes are very special. The taste is excellent and different from the average potato because these potatoes are grown at heights of above 1,000 meters, with a special climate and in the rocky soil of Lungau. It is a real Salzburg product with a limited availability.
All the potato varieties, such as Ditta, Laura and Melody are called Eachtling in this region and the harvest was excellent this year. But the slow growing and flavorful Eachtling has a limited availability. About 200 farmers in the region cultivate the potatoes at a surface of 80 hectares. The maximal yield is around 25 metric tons according to Andreas Kaiser, Managing Director of the Lungau Farmers Association. The association cooperates with SPAR since 2005. “We are glad to offer our customers the Eachtling again this year, the organic potato with a long history will really convince food lovers,” states Christof Rissbacher managing director of SPAR Salzburg and Tirol.
These potatoes are especially suitable for the preparation of salads, jacket potatoes and gratins. Customers should store the “Eachtling” in a dark, cool place, but never in the refrigerator.
