Ukraine will have to import carrots and late cabbage, which will increase the price of the agricultural products by 40-50%. This was announced by the president of the Union of Agricultural Service Cooperatives, Ivan Tomic to a GolosUA correspondent.
“The problem is that around 40% less of these products have been harvested in comparison with last year. This is not enough to meet domestic demand,” he said.
The expert noted that the quality of carrots and late cabbage grown in 2015 is very low, due to the adverse weather conditions. "All these factors bring on the need to import carrots and late cabbage. And the imports, of course, are affected by exchange rate fluctuations. Therefore, the prices of these two crops will be high, price increases of 40% and above are predicted," he stressed.
“APK-Inform: Vegetables and Fruits”, fruit and vegetable price index for the previous week (from 3 to 9 October 2015) rose 22.4%, which was the sharpest weekly rise in prices in the current season. In general, over the last two weeks, the price of fruit and vegetable products in Ukraine has risen 33.9%.
