Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) states that an increase in annual food crop inflation has helped increase Headline Inflation in October 2015.
"The 1.6% point increase in Headline Inflation in October was driven by increase in annual food crop inflation which increased to 20.2% compared to 10.2% recorded in the year ending September 2015 and by annual energy, fuel and utilities (EFU) inflation which increased to 11.9% compared to 3.8% recorded in the year ending September 2015. The sharp increase in EFU inflation was boosted by the recent increase in power tariffs." said Dr. Chris Mukiza, Director Macroeconomics Statistics, UBOS.
Mukiza said monthly food inflation, which includes among others food crops and processed food, increased from 5.1% during the month. The increase in monthly food inflation to increase in prices of matooke (plantain), Irish potatoes, passion fruits, pineapples, mangoes, onions, tomatoes, green paper, beans, maize flour and sugar as recorded in most of the centres.
The year ending October 2015 witnessed a reduction in the prices of oranges, sweet potatoes, cassava, cabbage, sweet bananas, avocado, bitter tomatoes, egg plants, carrots, fish and fresh milk.
