According to the daily price monitoring project "APK-Inform: Vegetables and Fruits" an increase in lemon prices has been seen on most of the wholesale markets in Ukraine.
The largest price increase was observed in Khmelnitsky. On the wholesale market, "Dubogo" lemons were offered for 40-42 UAH / kg (1.53-1.61 euros / kg), while in the past week prices were 34-36 UAH / kg (1.3-1.38 euros / kg). In comparison with last year, prices for lemons on these markets increased by an average of 1.7 times.
On the Kyiv wholesale market "Stolichniy” a rise in lemon prices was seen from the second half of last week. Prices for these products which were 30-36 UAH / kg (1.15-1.38 euros / kg) began to rise sharply, and now these fruits are 35-40 UAH / kg (1.34-1.53 euros / kg).
In comparison, this year the price of the most expensive lemons is 74% higher than at the end of 2014.On the wholesale market “Shuvar” the prices of lemons today are around 37-38 UAH/ kg (1.42-1.46 euros/ kg), last week they cost 32-33 UAH/ kg (1.23-1.26 euros/ kg). Since last year, lemons on the Lviv market became more expensive by an average of 1.7 times.
However, it should be noted that on the wholesale market, "Kopan”, which is in the Kherson region, the price last week remained stable. The analysts from "APK-Inform: Vegetables and Fruits" associated the increase in lemon prices with pre-New Year price increase hype.
The supply of these products on the Ukrainian wholesale markets is also quite limited, which spurred a growth in prices. At the same time, the steep price difference compared to last year, was connected by the experts to the significant devaluation of the hryvnia against the dollar and the euro.
